Push notifications
Push notifications allow you to send a direct message to participants' devices to announce a promotion. Unlike the in-app list -- which is only visible when a participant actively opens the app -- a push notification reaches participants proactively and can prompt them to engage with a promotion they might otherwise miss.
How it works
You configure the notification content when setting up the promotion's communication. The notification is sent to all participants who have the app installed and have not disabled push notifications at the device level.
The notification is dispatched at the promotion's start date and time, or immediately if the promotion is already active when the notification is configured and sent.
Configuring the notification
The fields available for a push notification are:
Title. The headline of the notification, displayed in bold on the device. Keep it short -- aim for under 40 characters. This is the first thing participants read and determines whether they tap through.
Body. The supporting text that appears below the title. Use this to communicate the key benefit and any critical condition (for example, "Valid this weekend only" or "Minimum spend €15"). Aim for one or two sentences at most.
Best practices
- Lead with the benefit, not the brand. "Earn double points this Saturday" performs better than "Spraed promotion available".
- Include a time constraint in the body if the promotion is short-lived. Urgency is one of the most effective motivators in push notification copy.
- Do not send push notifications for every promotion. Participants who receive too many notifications tend to disable them entirely. Reserve push for promotions that are genuinely time-sensitive or unusually valuable.
