Promotions and offers
Promotions are the tool Spraed provides to run time-limited campaigns on top of your loyalty program's regular operation. They allow you to amplify benefits for participants on specific occasions -- a weekend, an event, a new product launch -- without modifying the program's base earning rules.
How promotions work
A promotion always adds to the earning rules already configured in your program. It never replaces or modifies them. When a participant makes a transaction with an active promotion, the system first calculates the standard benefits according to the earning rules, then applies the promotional effect on top of that result.
This means promotions are safe to configure: they can never reduce or cancel the benefits you have already promised your customers.
Who can create a promotion
The ability to create promotions depends on the program type:
- Single Brand program -- promotions are created by the Business, meaning the program administrator.
- Coalition program -- promotions are created by Merchants, meaning the individual participating stores. Each Merchant manages their own promotions autonomously within the shared program.
In both cases the available features are identical.
How a participant uses a promotion
Participants do not automatically receive promotional benefits. To get the promotional advantage they must explicitly opt in before completing the payment.
The flow works as follows:
- The participant opens the Your card section in the app.
- On the same screen where the QR code appears, all currently active and available promotions are listed.
- The participant selects the promotion they want to apply to the current transaction.
- They show the QR code to the merchant to complete the payment.
Only one promotion per transaction can be applied. If multiple promotions are active simultaneously, the participant chooses which one to use.
Anatomy of a promotion
Every promotion is made up of three main elements:
Promotion type defines the mechanism by which benefits are amplified. The available types are Booster, Extra Fixed Reward, and Item Scoped Reward.
Constraints define the conditions that must be met for the promotion to be valid: validity period, time ranges, minimum spend, and usage limits.
Communication covers the informational elements used to present the promotion to participants: cover image, description, push notification, shareable link, and terms and conditions.
